Get SMAART At LDI
Jamie Anderson of Rational Acoustics will be teaching Smaart Fundamentals and Applications, a two-day course on Wednesday and Thursday, October 20 and 21, covering the basic principles and practices of setting up a Smaart measurement rig and using it to make RTA, Spectrograph, Frequency Response (Transfer Function), and Impulse Response measurements.
As Shannon Slaton reported in Live Design: “Smaart is a straightforward and widely used software solution for realtime sound system measurement, analysis, and optimization, and it has been completely rewritten from the ground up. Smaart v7 is multi-channel and multi-platform. It is able to access modern multi-channel input devices and operate native in both Windows and Mac Operating Systems (including 32- and 64-bit versions) and can run multiple, simultaneous Spectrum and Transfer Function Measurements. Version 7 takes advantage of modern processing power, speed, and memory, whether it is one processor or eight. You can run as many simultaneous single-channel (spectrum) and dual-channel (transfer function) measurement engines as your PC will allow.”

Star Wars: In Concert Featured at LDI 2010
Steve Cohen, Seth Jackson, and Bryan Barancik have joined the line-up of speakers in LDI’s Innovation & Technology Conference. They will be discussing the design challenges for Star Wars: In Concert, a unique multi-media event featuring music from all six of John Williams' epic Star Wars scores. Steve Cohen serves as creative director and designer for the show, with Jackson acting as associate production designer and Barancik as associate lighting designer.
As Jackson noted in Live Design: the lighting for the Star Wars Concert ebbs and flows along musical lines, but also along the lines of the images on the screen. "The timecode is a tremendous reference for everyone, but nothing in this show is sequenced or triggered," he says. "The organic nature of an 86-piece orchestra gives way to variances every night. The conductor has no click track, the lighting isn't triggered, and the orchestra and choir aren't tracked. We are all doing this completely live."
